While Triumph Development and Vail Resorts have touted the Booth Heights development as "workforce housing," it should be noted that much of the proposal is a for-profit, free market development. In other words, our community is being asked to extirpate the Bighorn Sheep from the Gore Valley in order for Triumph Development and Vail Resorts to make millions.
Booth Heights boosters say that this parcel is the only opportunity to build workforce housing in the Town of Vail. This is entirely untrue: Timber Ridge has yet to be redeveloped; a sizeable workforce housing component is included in the plans for Vail Resorts' new "Ever Vail" development. All of these would be on land far less sensitive that the Bighorn parcel. This list does not include the private developments coming online including Sonnenalp's workforce housing project adjacent to Red Sandstone Elementary, and the 240 apartments proposed for Avon.
